Cenega is a publisher not terribly well known in North America, but Europeans have been enjoying their games for several years now.
Creature Conflict: The Clan Wars is a turn based strategy game being developed by Hungarian developer Mithis Entertainment. While I was able to indulge myself in a playable demo last year, which was terribly funny and very entertaining, it was not being actively shown this year. However, it will be coming out May 2005 for PC and Xbox.
UFO: Aftershock is a PC game that is a very engaging combination of strategy and tactics gameplay. A sequel to the 2003 game UFO: Aftermath, the alien Reticulans have control of Earth, though this setup seems amicable to the humans. While the player does have some significant control on the strategic level, moving forces, building bases, and doing research, the real bulk of the game is in the lower tactical levels. The battles run in real time, but the player is allowed to pause and issue/change orders at his leisure.
If you want to do less thinking and more killing, El Matador is the solution. A third person action game that encourages stealthy behavior, El Matador places you in the role of a DEA operative fighting against a South American crime syndicate, Latin Narcomafia.
The Roots is a PC RPG with a more traditional style that includes many action-adventure elements. I?ve yet to see more than pictures and trailers, but the game is scheduled to come out this fall. |
