When he sends the word out to a local contact in the vicinity of the shipwreck to search for the device, the man and his wife are brutally murdered as their daughter has just come for a visit on their boat. The daughter, Melina Havelock (Carole Bouquet), vows revenge and teams up with Bond to find her parents' killer. Bond and Melina are also aided by Milos Columbo (Topol, "Fiddler on the Roof"), as they try to determine who is behind the murders and who they are battling to retrieve the ATAC, as it could be Columbo or Aristotle Kristatos (Julian Glover). Bond not only has to dodge bullets, but also the promiscuous advances of Bibi (Lynn-Holly Johnson, "Ice Castles"), the young skating protégé of Kristatos. As Bond, Melina and Columbo attempt to storm Kristatos' mountain fortress, Bibi and her coach realize Kristatos is not all that he seems and try to make their escape, only for a huge battle to erupt between Bond and Kristatos' henchmen and another of Bibi's crushes, Erich Kriegler (John Wyman).
The cinematics are breathtaking, especially the underwater scenes, and the battles, whether they be in car, on skis or underwater, are action-packed. Roger Moore was always my favorite Bond, I guess because he was Bond when I first discovered the movies, and he is excellent in this film, as are his cohorts. The visual restoration of the film looks absolutely superb, but the sound is definitely lacking. When the action music started up, I'd have to turn the sound way down or have my ears blasted out, but when the conversations began, I'd have to turn it way up again. This went out throughout the film and needless to say, was a real downer.
While a good film, its not the best Bond out there. If you are trying to complete your Bond collection and want it on high def, then its worth a purchase, but if you already have it, I can't recommend a purchase, especially considering the wonky audio.
