This one starts off with Bond infiltrating North Korea under the guise of a weapons purchaser, but when his identity is exposed, he is captured and held for 14 months under constant interrogation. When an MI6 mission goes wrong, the British government feels that Bond broke under the torture and trade him for a North Korean prisoner who was captured soon after Bond's botched mission. It appears that, not only does the government feel he has been compromised, but he may have started working for the North Koreans as well. Bond's Double-O status is revoked and he is kept under constant observation.
Needless to say, Bond is determined to find out who has been setting him up, so he breaks out of his cell and goes rogue in order to find out just who is behind his current predicament. After tapping a few contacts, Bond finds that someone who might know what is going on has been seen in Cuba. As he gets close to his first clues (which turn out to be the very man he was traded for), he learns of a complex gene therapy clinic that can change a person's appearance much more thoroughly than plastic surgery (since the person's DNA itself gets altered). He also meets a strange woman who turns out to be NSA called Jinx (Halle Berry). Interestingly enough, the bikini she first appears in bears a striking resemblance to the iconic swimsuit from Dr. No.
As Bond's quest continues, he will be directed to billionaire playboy and world renowned fencer, Gustav Graves (Toby Stephens), but no one is as they seem, not Gustav, not even Gustav's secretary (who turns out to be an MI6 agent under cover).
Die Another Day has a few twists in it and, as any Bond fan would expect, some really good chase sequences. The major one in this film involves Bond's Aston Martin and another vehicle chasing each other across a frozen lake (both vehicles armed to the teeth, of course).
Special Features are about what you would expect, plus similar ones to the rest of the Blu-ray collection that is being released alongside Die Another Day like the 007 Mission Control segment that gives an in depth look at Die Another Day's gadgets, girls and weapons. Outside of that, there is also an MI6 popup video trivia track that is interesting.
While by no means the best Bond film (not really even the best Brosnan Bond film), die-hard fans of the line will still want this Blu-ray release for their collection if you are already picking up the other Bond films in the HD format.
