Wayne and Garth couldn't be more happy, because they get a signing fee of $5000 each! Add to Wayne's happiness the fact that he has met his dream girl in Cassandra (Tia Carrere), beautiful lead singer of a popular metal band. She and Wayne hit it off, but leave it to Benjamin to try to steal her away and plot against Wayne. Will Wayne and Garth save their beloved show and triumph over corporate America sleaze? Depends on which ending you watch.
Wayne's World is simply hilarious. Seeing the two of them re-enact the opening scene from Laverne and Shirley is enough to bring tears to my eyes - from laughing too hard! Co-starring folks like Chris Farley, Meatloaf, Lara Flynn Boyle and the lovely Donna Dixon, Wayne's World is sure to bring back some classic laughs and plenty of memories. While it does date itself with all of the pop culture references, it's still loads of fun. This movie alone changed the way people rocked to "Bohemian Rhapsody" forever, so how can you not love it?
The move to high def isn't all that noticeable, aside from the film being cleaned up a good bit. It's not one of those movies that begs for high def, but the rockin' tunes on the surround sound sure did sound good. Special features are sparse and include commentary with director Penelope Spheeris, theatrical trailer and cast and crew interviews, which looked like they were fairly recent and were enjoyable, but nothing to write home about.
While the humor is pretty low-brow, the laughs are undeniable, but still, Wayne's World isn't a film for everyone. If you already know and love it, and you don't already have Wayne's World in your collection, then this is the version to pick up. However, if you already have it, I wouldn't necessarily say you need to replace it with the Blu-ray.
