This volume starts off with a two-parter that puts Ben head-to-head with Khyber and the hunter's transforming hunting dog. Ben and Rook pretend to have an argument in order to make Ben appear to be an easier target for the master-hunter, but even with the advantage of Rook waiting in the background to jump in and help Ben out, Ben will have to be at the top of his game in order to stop the dog and its Nemetrix.
After that, Ben's Omnitrix goes on the fritz and many of the enemies being held at the local Plumbers base end up taking on traits of some of the aliens at Ben's disposal. What results is a jailbreak with Ben stuck in some of the weakest forms (many of which are first appearances).
This volume also contains a couple of interesting one-off stories like a spoof of Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle and one where a character named Billy Billions shows up with a major grudge against Ben. It seems the kid spent years stuck in the timeless Dimension 12 where he used his genius to conquer the race of robots. He has, of course, brought them to Earth to take out Ben.
Another interesting episode has all of the women in Ben's life meeting and Ben finding himself in a tight spot. In this episode, he realizes that he apparently broke up with Julie several months ago. With Julie in tow, Ben is asked by Ester to save her village from a rampaging Tetramand who turns out to be Looma Red Wind, Ben's betrothed.
The episode, "Bros in Space" has Ben going to Rook's homeworld where he learns a lot about his partner as well as the culture he comes from, but it seems even traveling halfway across the galaxy can't keep some of Ben's old villains from showing up.
The volume concludes in a two-parter where Malware and his companions attack Galvan Prime. Ben is summoned by Azmuth to help save the planet, but when Malware actually starts seeping towards the planet core, it will take more than just brute force to stop the evil Galvanic Mechamorph. This pair of episodes also reveals why we don't see the Feedback form in any of the 16 year-old storylines and only in the segments that have Ben at 11.
Like Volume 1, Heroes Rise's special features are limited to some information about a couple of Ben's new aliens and some of Khyber's dog's forms.
Ben 10 Omniverse: Heroes Rise keeps the show going at a good pace and seems to wrap up a few storylines. It will be interesting to see what Ben and Rook will face next. Simply put, those who liked the first volume will find this one equally enjoyable.
