White House Down from Director Roland Emmerich (2012, Independence Day) is a rollercoaster ride of action, explosions and yes, a hearty helping of comedy. When John Cale (Channing Tatum) interviews at the White House for his dream job as part of the President's Secret Service detail, he brings his young daughter Emily (Joey King) along for the ride. At the tender age of 13, Emily is an avid political blogger and a huge fan of President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx), so Cale uses the opportunity to bond with the drifting teen. The President is in the midst of a huge political move that would essentially bring about peace in the Middle East and not everyone is happy about it. During the tour, the White House is attacked by a band of mercenaries and Cale springs into action, locating President Sawyer but becoming separated from Emily at the same time. Secret Service Agent Finnerty (Maggie Gyllenhaal), an ex-girlfriend of Cale's from college, is attempting to coordinate the President's rescue from outside of the White House with her boss, Walker (James Woods) inside the White House, while also securing the safety of the Vice President and the Secretary of State (Richard Jenkins). However, everything is not as it seems.

Before long, President Sawyer, Cale and his daughter, Emily, all have targets on their backs and someone has activated the nukes from inside the White House. Finnerty doesn't know who to trust, Sawyer has no choice but to pick up a gun and fight gangster style alongside Cale, and it will take all of Cale's wits and resources to save them all, along with the free world.

White House Down is an absolute blast. Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx are a hilarious combination and really have great chemistry on screen. James Woods is very intense in his role and Maggie Gyllenhall also does well, but her role seems relatively small, comparatively. Jason Clarke is absolutely chilling and brilliant, as always, and Joey King is fantastic as Emily. I expect big things for this young woman, as she is quite the actress. It was also nice to see Richard Jenkins (Step Brothers) and Jimmi Simpson (Breakout Kings), even if their roles were smaller.

Since this is a Roland Emmerich film, you can expect lots of grand explosions and loads of action. Watching White House Down on Blu-ray is the only way to go and you will hear and feel every moment of this intense film in high def deliciousness. Special features are plentiful, but short, in that there are lots of featurettes, but almost every one lasts about 5 minutes or less. They cover everything from the special effects to the sets, the actors themselves and their special stunt training, and everything in between. I am not normally a fan of special features, but I really enjoyed watching these. The gag reel was also pretty darn funny as well. Do be aware that most of the special features are Blu-ray exclusive.

White House Down is the perfect popcorn movie if you want to just sit back and enjoy the action-filled ride. It's a really fun movie.
