Few well-known gaming franchises have undergone a metamorphosis as radical as that of the
Resident Evil series. Once the genre pioneer of survival horror (as well as the gold standard), the series with the heavy emphasis on atmosphere and dread is now all about white-knuckle third-person shooting action. This change has brought praise and criticism alike.
Resident Evil: Revelations for the Nintendo 3DS looks like it wants to be the middleman between survival horror and action, and my hands-on time with the demo's "pilot version" has left me with high hopes.
Resident Evil: Revelations is set between the events of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. Apparently, Chris Redfield and his partner have gone missing, and it's up to Jill Valentine to find them. It's safe to assume that this mission will not be cut-and-dry.
