Lego Star Wars: The Video Game: Episode III

Well, this is it. The final chapter in this lengthy preview of Lego Star Wars: The Video Game. In case you haven't read the previous two parts (covering Episodes I and II) please visit the links at the bottom of this article.

In the past two articles, I've gone extremely in depth into the contents of the episodes. I saw this as a good way to explain exactly how the game portrayed the movies. But since, at the time of this article, Revenge of the Sith has not been released yet -- such an in depth description might not be the best format.

As for movie spoilers... I would love to go into those and explain just how everything happens, but like the previous episodes -- Revenge of the Sith seems to skip over what should be critical parts of the story. Most of the secrets that will be revealed in the movie are not even mentioned in the game. Questions like: What finally pushes Anakin into the dark side? Who is Darth Sidious (if you haven't figured that out already, that is)? And how do so many Jedi die? are still left in the air. I don't know if these were taken out because the developers of Lego Star Wars: The Video Game weren't informed, or if these were the parts of the story that were deemed too dark for the desired audience.

Either way, this episode (like the other two) seems to touch on the major battles and story points in order to get the overall tail told -- but leaves the details out and makes you want to see the movie that much more.

Like The Phantom Menace, Episode III of Lego Star Wars: The Video Game is broken up into six chapters. These chapters cover everything from the rescue of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, to the battle on the Wookie home world of Kashyyyk and the destruction of the Jedi Temple and the resulting battle beaten Obi-Wan and Anakin.

The first chapter, "Battle Over Coruscant", gives you control of the Jedi Starfighters as you play as Anakin and Obi-Wan (if you have a friend join in) fighting your way through the space battle to the ship that holds the captured Palpatine. Once aboard, Chapter 2 starts off -- "Chancellor in Peril". The two Jedi work their way to the imprisoned head-of-state and finally Count Dooku. From there, Obi-Wan seeks out the droid general, Grievous (who is quite a bad ass), and then you take control of Yoda (as well as a familiar furry friend from the first trilogy) as Order 66 is given and the clones turn on their Jedi commanders in "Defense of Kashyyyk".

After returning from their respective missions, Obi-Wan and Yoda find themselves at a battle-torn Jedi Temple in the chapter "Ruin of the Jedi". This is followed by the final chapter, and probably the most suspenseful level of the entire game, "Darth Vader". This chapter is the strung-out fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin as they race across a lava-filled arena, and ends with an unexpected twist that may test your (personal) friendship.

Collecting enough studs in these chapters will build various vehicles that should be showcased in the upcoming movie. You will build a Drop Ship, an Emergency Ship, Anakin's Jedi Starfighter and the Wookie CAT. This plus the ARC Fighter (which looks like the predecessor of the X-Wing) and finally the V-Wing.

You will also be able to unlock some of the more powerful characters in the game by playing through this episode. Early on, you will be able to unlock Palpatine, Count Dooku and General Grievous. When you command Yoda and Chewie on Kashyyyk, you will be able to unlock a whole slew of different clones, as well as the big walking carpet himself.

After you face off against Grievous and purchase him from Dex, the droid general will be major asset in the game. Grievous can jump as high as Jar Jar Binks (who until that point is the only one that can reach some goodies) but can also fight (unlike the back-water buffoon). Grievous wields four lightsabers and does massive damage with all of his attacks, and even though he doesn't have access to the Force -- he will still be one of the better characters on the selection screen.

You will also be able to unlock Grievous' bodyguards. These IG-100 series droids are fast and wield staffs that can pack a wallop, so be careful when facing them -- but go all out when you are controlling one.

After playing through the entire last episode of Lego Star Wars: The Video Game, and purchasing all of the enemies, you will still be left with four figures shadowed out and locked. Who are these figures? How do you get them? Where does that fourth door in Dex's Diner lead to and how do you open it? Well I can't spoil all the fun can I? You will have to play through the game to find out.

To make a long preview short, if you are a fan of either Star Wars or Legos (not a fan of Legos!? Is that even possible?), then this game is a must have. It is a great way to wet your appetite (as if it wasn't soaked already) and prepare yourself for the release of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith due to hit theaters May 19th.

Good bye, and may the force be with you. Yeah I said it, you knew it had to come out eventually.
