Fighter Destiny 2

Score: 60%
ESRB: Teen
Publisher: Southpeak Interactive
Developer: Imagineer
Media: Cartridge/1
Players: 1 - 2
Genre: Fighting

Graphics & Sound:

The graphics of Fighter Destiny 2 are pretty decent. Maybe not the best, but they are better than average, and the framerate does not lag behind as in some games. Some of the players have lush coloring, while there really isn’t a whole lot to some of the arenas.

The sound quality of SouthPeak’s game is also decent. It would have been nice to have had voice-overs instead of having to read the printed wisdom of ‘Master,’ but this is a drawback of the cartridge, I suppose. The sound that is present is pretty good, but could be better. At best, you get little snippets of voice and sound effects while fighting.

Gameplay:

Straight to the point, Fighter Destiny 2 is a fighting game... so you fight (duh). Aside from the typical one or two player modes, you also have the very cool addition of the ‘Fighter’s Arena’ Mode. In this, you will work your way across what is essentially a game board, combating other fighters on your way to the top. The coolest feature in this game is that you will build your character’s attributes as you go and save them to a memory card. After this is done, if you have a friend that has also completed the ‘Fighter’s Arena,’ you can do battle. But this is not an ordinary battle, as if you lose, you lose attribute points! Run out of points, and you lose your fighter! This puts a little bit more on the line between friends. Unfortunately, you will have to have 2 controller paks to do this.

There are also Training, Versus, Battle, and Record Attack modes of play. All are pretty straightforward. Fight to win! Learn each fighter’s tendencies, and you will be victorious. The hardest part is learning the controls.

Difficulty:

Overall, difficulty in the fighting genre would probably depend on your experience with games of this nature. Fighter Destiny 2 is no exception. Although there are really only four buttons to press, controlling your fighter is a learned trait. There are a variety of moves. To pull them off may require hours of gameplay and practice. Nonetheless, Fighter Destiny 2‘s difficulty increases as you progress throughout the game in single player mode, or difficulty will depend on your human competition.

Game Mechanics:

Not much to say other than you will need practice to learn your fighting controls. Bust out the Training Mode and then bust up your friends! Minimal buttons keep the game somewhat simple, but a bit sluggish, as this means more combination button presses. But hey, what’s a few extra button presses between friends? And speaking of friends, don’t pay attention to the box that Fighter Destiny 2 comes in. Let me repeat... THE BOX IS WRONG!!! Even though the box says that it is for 1-4 players, Fighter Destiny 2 is actually only for 1-2 players!!! Bad SouthPeak, BAD!
