Armed and Dangerous is a straightforward action platformer. The game gives you control of Roman, leader of a gang of thieves who are attempting to pull off the biggest heist the world has ever seen. Accompanying you is a very tall robot who likes to drink tea, a mole with an affinity for blowing things up, and a small, blind, wrinkly man with a shotgun. Chock full of wit and weapons, this motley group aids you throughout the laugh fest that is
Armed and Dangerous.
The game is strictly mission based, and as you begin each new adventure, you are presented with a list of goals you have to achieve in order to complete the mission. Along the way, you will be blasting enemies with the strange assortment of weapons the game has to offer. These destructive devices are some of the most original designs a game of this type has ever seen. Of course, there are basic rifles and hand grenades and things like that, but have you ever seen a bomb that turns the entire world upside down, launching your enemies into the air, and then righting itself again bringing the brutes back to earth with a satisfying crunching of bones? Well, have ya?
The missions are usually set up to let you use these weapons to their full effect. Hordes of baddies are lined up for you to launch mortars, rockets, and land sharks at. Huh? Land shark? Yes, there is a weapon that makes a huge shark emerge violently from the ground and eat everything in the nearby vicinity. Of course, there are other stipulations to each mission besides the main goals. You earn cash for killing bad guys, but you lose cash for blowing up the local inhabitants, which is much easier done than said. This tends to curb your trigger finger a bit, but you can usually counteract this negative income by laying into the unending waves of bad guys that are constantly thrown at you. This money can then be used at pubs to buy munitions. Not beer, but more ammo and guns. If only bars around here carried firearms along with kegs.
A few variations on missions, like rescuing peasants or hopping into a giant turret to defend a castle, are thrown into the game, but Armed and Dangerous doesnt change all that much from beginning to end. Each level has a secret item hidden in it that will unlock certain features, but there isnt much else to it besides that.
